Why would you write a blog ?

Well, I found myself having difficulties following instructions to deploy a k3d cluster with Terraform .

I found it amusing to have to do so many things to find where the problem came from and resolve it (spoiler: bad error messages and windows suck). Like most developers will tell you, a big part of development is being a detective, you have a victim (always you), clues (error messages, logs) and guilty software, line of codes, versions, etc. But truth be told, we, the developers, are often the guilty ones ;)

So, why a blog ? I saw this video recently and thought it would be useful for both me (can lead to job opportunities) and others (you might discover new things, it always fun to learn) to share my thoughts and insights.
Especially because I'm learning Smalltalk and want to dev with it. Smalltalk isn't widely used at all nowadays, but it is still awesome in many, many ways! I will use the open source version Pharo, it has a great community (come say Hi on discord) a MOOC and it has improved a lot over the years!

How do you do, what's your process ?

BAD.
Yeah, to be honest I wasn't sure I would create a blog ,so I used to just copy/paste some lines of code and error logs in a .txt file. I swear I will do better in the future, with some screenshots and better explanations.

The choice of hashnode is almost random, I didn't want to use wordpress, and I wanted something light. After a quick search I found this free hosting blog platform, designed for devs with neat features like auto-backup on github and the possibility to use your own domain name.

Who are you ?

The part I don't like, selling myself or talking about me, so I'll keep it short:
I'm a 37 yo French dev, currently in Queenstown, New Zealand because of the covid-19 outbreak. My wife and I got married here, on top of the Remarkables last year, after having our visitor visas automagically extended twice by the NZ gov. Then we asked for 6 months more, which we got!! So, if I can't find a job here I'll fly somewhere else in October 2021...

What do you like?

Creating things.
Really.
It's the only thing humans are doing well compared to the other living creatures on earth. (If you disagree, I suggest you open a history book, read Chomsky, browse r/collapse and think about it :] )
That's why I love drawings, paintings, cuisine, sculpture, storytelling, music,... and software development !
I even studied musicology from 2005 to 2008 at the university of Aix-en-Provence, France. As music wouldn't open a lot of job opportunities and I always liked messing with computers (since Amstrad CPC 6128 ) I switched to software development just after musicology. I still have knowledge of classical harmony, and I will surely share some resources to help wanna be composers.

What to expect?

Dev stuff.
Very opinionated thoughts.
Logs of my tribulations learning new things.
That won't be very original except the Smalltalk part I guess. But it will be honest.

If you read all that, I want to say it the Kiwi's way:

Cheers mate! Have a good one!
